The Basics of the SLuRP System

The SLuRP system is a skill-based system. There are no character classes, and no experience levels. Instead, you create a character and prioritise your skill lists based on which skills you are most likely to need most of.

There are eight main skill lists. Look through each one and see which one contains the most skills that you want, and which ones contain nothing of interest to you. In this way, prioritise the lists from one through eight.

You then assign list-multipliers to each list. The multipliers range from x1 through x5, and effect how much a skill actually costs to buy.

If a skill is listed as costing (for example) 5 points, the actual cost to you will be this base cost multiplied by the list-multiplier you have assigned to the list in which the skill is found.

The eight main skill-lists are: -

Agility
Skills for dodging, leaping, and hitting things with more flair and aplomb. It represents how quick and dextrous you are.
Charisma
Skills for social interactions and manipulations, and for persuading people to do your bidding. Also covers Charm Magic, and represents how sociable you are.
Craft
Skills for making things, repairing things, and being good with your hands. Also covers Alchemy and Medical skills, and represents how creative you are.
Intellect
Skills that represent academic knowledge, learning and cleverness. Also covers Elemental Magic and Hermetic magic, and represents how intelligent you are.
Life
Skills that represent your endurance and resilience. In particular it covers your capacity for withstanding damage, and represents how tough you are. This is where you buy Life (health) points from.
Mysticism
Skills that represent more arcane knowledge and your awareness of your inner being. It also covers Divine Magic and Shamanism, and represents how spritual you are.
Perception
Skills for spotting and detecting things, and for analysing their nature. It represents how observant you are.
Strength
Skills for hitting things, doing damage, and general thuggery. It represents how strong you are (funnily enough).

In addition to these skills, there is a variety of types of magic. While each kind of magic uses its own list, these lists use one of the eight list-multipliers you have already assigned. For example, Shamanism use the Mysticism multiplier, Alchemy uses the Craft multiplier, and Elementalism uses the Intellect multipler.

Most spells require the purchase of spell-points. These cost 1 point per spell point bought, and use the same list-multiplier as the school of magic.
